A former MasterChef Legends finalist, Suu Khin runs Burmalicious, a food blog that aims to demystify the cuisine of Myanmar (also known as Burma). She draws on her heritage and the work of chefs such as Nigella Lawson, Grant Achatz, and the late Anthony Bourdain for inspiration.

Her pop-up events highlight traditional and modern Burmese dishes like ohn no khao swe, a seven course foray into the flavors of her country, as well as mohinga, the national fish dish that has become a symbol of Burma’s culinary heritage. The meal is paired with a selection of wines.

Houston rapper and part of the rap duo UGK Bun B has opened his first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 3607 Shepherd Drive in Montrose. The location will serve as an extended pop-up for six months while the owners search for a permanent spot in Houston. The restaurant features his likeness on the burger boxes and has already been visited by celebrities including Ludacris, Slim Thug, and former Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson.

The restaurant serves both beef and vegan smash burgers that are made with 44 Farms Texas beef, cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and the OG Trill sauce on a Martin’s potato roll. The menu also includes drinks such as the Trillionaire Watermelon Herbal Seltzer and the Brew GK Apple Kolsch. The restaurant is open for dine-in and walk-up ordering.

Umbrella Fellas

If you’re craving a burger or a hot dog, Umbrella Fellas has you covered. This burger stand, founded by Chito Perez, is known for its fast service and fresh flavors. The menu also includes vegetarian options, ensuring that all dietary preferences are accommodated. You can find Umbrella Fellas at various locations, including Axelrad, Lil’ Danny Speedo’s Go Fly a Kite Lounge, and Grand Prize Bar.

In addition to Kosher beef hot dogs and burgers, this boozy bar-restaurant-microbrewery serves a revolving roster of Houston street vendors. Grab a seat on the patio and enjoy a drink while snacking on the likes of fried pickles, flatbreads topped with Texas peaches, and bucatini with fermented garlic butter. Bourdreaux

Located in the Tipping Point, a downtown coffee shop and vintage streetwear outpost, Bourdreaux is a cafe and pop-up space run by chef Joseph Boudreaux. He dispenses his signature smash burgers, which utilize good techniques like custom blending of chuck and short rib and homemade pickles and a special sauce, out of the space, as well as at various markets. He also offers breakfast sandos and pain perdu. He recently reached the final of Masterchef.
